§ WINTER 2027 · WINTER CAMPS

Winter break is short — just long enough to do one real thing.

Fly to Malaysia and spend five days at a technical institute founded by Germany and Malaysia; land back in Taiwan on January 29 and start a Tainan camp the very next day — taking a real machine apart down to the last screw, or turning a set of study methods into habit.

2027 Winter Programs · Jan–Feb

Tinker Lab — children taking apart a camera and an electric fan, and building an air cannon and a paper-plane launcher

Tinker Lab

Grades 1–6 · Jan 30–Feb 3

Take it apart to understand it, then build it back yourself

Six projects in five days. First, children take apart real machines — a vintage twin-lens camera, a handheld fan, a pocket radio. Then they build devices that actually move: a smoke-ring air cannon, a deck-style paper-plane launcher, a handheld tornado. Every project ends with something to take home, and the salvaged parts are arranged in a large clear specimen case.

WhoGrades 1–6 · Sat, Jan 30 – Wed, Feb 3 · 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. daily

FeeNT$12,500 (includes lunch and all lab materials)

Brain-Science Study Skills Camp — a child at a desk organizing a lesson with notes and diagrams

Brain-Science Study Skills Camp

Grades 3–6 · Jan 30–Feb 3

Not a school subject — the skill of learning itself

Children learn how the brain remembers and focuses, then turn the Pomodoro technique, two-column note-taking and spaced review into tools of their own. A short learning-skills check is taken at the start and end of each day, and after the five days parents receive a full learning report. This session is for Grades 3–6; the junior and senior high group returns in summer 2027.

WhoGrades 3–6 · Sat, Jan 30 – Wed, Feb 3 · 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. daily

Science Inquiry Competition Training — two children working with a burette and a graduated cylinder at a lab bench

Science Inquiry Competition Training

Grades 4–12 · Jan 21–22 + Jan 25–29

Carry out a complete scientific study, then compete

Over seven days, students complete a genuine research project: forming questions and designing the study, controlling variables, measuring with Vernier professional digital sensors, analyzing data, and producing a research report and a project video. Teams of two or three build the foundation over winter break, then carry the work through to the finals the following June.

WhoGrades 4–12 · Thu, Jan 21 – Fri, Jan 22 + Mon, Jan 25 – Fri, Jan 29 · 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. daily

FeeNT$22,000 per student

GMI Overseas Tech Camp — students working at computers in the cybersecurity lab at GMI

GMI Overseas Tech Camp, Malaysia

Ages 10–15 · Jan 21–29

Real engineering, hands-on — without flying to Germany

Five days of on-campus, hands-on work at GMI (German-Malaysian Institute), a technical institute founded jointly by the German and Malaysian governments: cars and electric vehicles, collaborative robot arms, obstacle-avoiding robot cars, 3D printing, AI video, and cybersecurity attack-and-defense. Taught entirely in English, with Taiwanese teachers accompanying the group throughout and a preparation class before departure.

§ What parents say

Real feedback

Not us praising ourselves — it’s the parents

Thank you for the two days of 7th-grade biology labs. At first he was a bit reluctant, worried he wouldn’t know anyone. Then he came home and wouldn’t stop sharing — he said it was so much fun, he’d never done experiments this fun. I never thought he’d dare to dissect a frog and a pig heart. I assumed he’d be scared of blood and wouldn’t pick up the scalpel. Thank you, teacher, for classes that are funny and professional at the same time. He’s already told me to book next summer’s physics and chemistry course.

Thank you so much for looking after the kids these four days. She had a wonderful time in the physics and chemistry lab course and learned so much. She even got a little see-through fish as a gift. Fun, snacks and something to take home — what a deal.

We live in Taipei, so we need to leave time to get back north. My child really likes your classes, and we are even more grateful that you opened up his interest in exploring science. Thank you.

She has been so looking forward to today’s class — she took a week off cram school for this course. Can’t wait for her to come home and share it with family and friends!

QuestionsFAQ

What parents ask most

Common questions about fees, dates and fit

QHow many camps can my child take in one winter break?
The Malaysia camp runs Jan 21–29 and the Tainan camps run Jan 30–Feb 3, so the two fit back to back — overseas plus local makes the fullest break. Tinker Lab and the Brain-Science Study Skills Camp run on the same dates at the same time, so a child takes one of the two: Tinker Lab for taking machines apart and building, the study skills camp for a complete set of study methods.
QWhat does the winter camp fee include?
Fees for the Tainan camps include lunch and all lab materials; there is no separate materials fee. What the overseas camp fee covers will be listed when its registration details are released.
QCan I pay with Stored Value 2.0 points?
Yes for the Tainan camps — paying with points skips the wait for transfer confirmation, so your place is secured sooner. Details for the overseas camp will be announced separately.
QMy child is new to STARK Lab. Will they be able to keep up?
Yes. Every winter camp unit starts from the basics and assumes no prior knowledge. What matters is a child who is willing to get hands-on, not one who already knows a lot.
