Frequently asked questions
The questions parents most often ask us on LINE — trials, placement, fees, camp logistics, and safety — answered here exactly as our front desk would.
Enrolment & trial lessons
How do I book a trial lesson?
Message us on LINE @starklab with your child’s name, grade, and preferred date. Trials are charged at one lesson (half for the all-English class), payable at the front desk on the day.
Can my child join mid-term?
Yes. Every regular lesson is a self-contained unit, so children can join at any point in the term. We recommend a trial lesson first to make sure the pace suits your child.
Do regular classes run all year?
Regular classes pause on national holidays and during winter and summer breaks, when camps and themed courses take over. Exact resumption dates are announced on LINE each term.
Can we join the waitlist for a full class?
Yes. Register via LINE and we will notify waitlisted families in order as places open. Completing payment within the stated window secures the place.
Courses & placement
Do you only teach experiment classes?
No. Beyond regular lab classes for primary and junior high students, we offer gifted mathematics for primary years, junior high mathematics, seasonal camps, and customised programmes.
What is the difference between Foundation, Advanced, and Intensive?
They are tiered by age and ability: Foundation for grades 1–3, with Advanced and Intensive both for grades 4–6. Intensive bridges to junior-high depth, so joining starts with a discussion and assessment.
How do I choose between the Chinese and all-English class?
The experiments are equally complete; the difference is the language of instruction. The all-English class runs entirely in English and suits children with listening fluency or bilingual plans. The Intensive class is taught in Chinese only.
Does the curriculum follow the school syllabus?
We do not teach unit-by-unit to the syllabus. Courses are designed as a long-term ladder — observation, measurement, variable control, then independent research — building abilities that outlast any syllabus.
Fees & absences
How are regular class fees calculated?
Fees are per lesson, billed monthly; see each course page for current rates. Camp fees always include lunch and all experiment materials.
Are missed lessons made up or refunded?
It depends on the course: some regular classes offer make-up lessons for absences and some do not — please check each course page. Camp absence and refund terms follow each course’s registration page.
Are there any discount schemes?
For winter and summer camps, our Stored Value 2.0 scheme lets you deposit a course fund in advance to earn bonus credit, then pay for enrolments directly with points, which never expire.
Camp practicalities
What should my child bring to camp? What about lunch?
Just stationery and a water bottle. Lunch and all experiment materials are provided. Times and details for each camp follow the notice sent before the course begins.
We both work — is early drop-off or late pick-up possible?
Yes. During winter and summer breaks the lab opens at 8 a.m., and with classes running into the evening a late pick-up is no problem. Just let us know via LINE after enrolment so we can arrange it.
Is there a shuttle service?
Yes — weekday camp courses during winter and summer breaks include a free shuttle service; see each camp’s activity details for the coverage area. Regular classes currently have no shuttle service.
Can my child be grouped with a friend?
Yes — just tell us both children’s names after enrolment. Teachers may still adjust groupings if it affects the class.
Safety & facilities
Are the experiment classes safe?
Classes run in a 115 m² purpose-built lab — spacious enough that children never work crowded together — with an assistant in class, and equipment and procedures matched to each age group. You are welcome to visit and see for yourself.
Can we visit the classroom?
Of course. Book a time via LINE and we will show you the lab and equipment in person — optionally paired with a trial lesson so your child can experience a class directly.
Location & getting here
Where is the lab? Can we drop in?
We are at No. 417, Guoping Road, Anping District, Tainan. Visits are by appointment — message us on LINE first and we will arrange a tour or a trial lesson for you.
We live in Annan, North, or East District — is it too far?
Not at all. Our students come from across Tainan — Annan, North, East, and the city centre as well as Anping — with most families driving. Check your navigation app for actual travel times.
Admissions & gifted programmes
Do you prepare students for the Jiansing gifted programme?
We run a gifted mathematics class for grades 4–5, built around the mathematical thinking the gifted assessment requires. See our Exams guide for how the assessment system works.
Do you publish admission results?
No. Since our founding we have never published admission lists or named students’ school placements. We present our teaching through course content and competition records, not individual results.
Do you run courses outside Tainan?
Introductory certification courses can occasionally run in other cities; advanced courses stay at our Tainan lab. Message us on LINE — with enough interest, we can assess additional locations.
