GRADE 6 Jiansing Junior High Math-Science Gifted Assessment
Formally the "Tainan City Junior High School Math-Science Academic Aptitude Gifted Student Assessment and Placement" — run city-wide by the Tainan City Department of Education, not an entrance exam set by Jiansing itself. Jiansing is the assessment venue for the grade-6 math-science track and also hosts a math-science gifted resource class. Grade-6 students residing or studying in Tainan may register.
Annual rhythm

- Route 1 "document review" (for those meeting the review criteria; materials from the past two school years) or Route 2 "assessment testing". Applicants who fail document review are automatically switched to Route 2 and still sit the screening round.

- Around December — online only, via the Tainan gifted-assessment registration system, using a Tainan OpenID; those registered in Tainan but studying elsewhere without an OpenID can sign in with LINE. A teacher observation form is also required.
- Screening
- Around Jan – Feb (most recent round, SY115: Jan 24) — achievement tests in mathematics and science.
- Final round
- Around March (most recent round, SY115: Mar 7 – 8) — a hands-on performance assessment in math-science, plus academic aptitude tests in science and mathematics.
- Assessment fees
- NT$900 for the screening round and NT$1,100 for the final round (SY114 rates). Fees are non-refundable; the final-round fee must be paid within the stated window.
- Results
- Around mid-to-late March, published on the school website and the registration system for self-download — no written notice is sent. Score reviews are limited to one request, NT$100.
This exam is not about calculation speed. It rewards systematic case-work, reading new definitions, writing reasons, and generalizing patterns. The final round's hands-on assessment has no published format and no released past papers — it tests whether a child can design a method, run it, and explain it when facing unfamiliar equipment. Cramming cannot build that.
※ Competitions accepted in document review — whether national or international — must be run by a "government agency" or an "academic research institution"; competitions run by private foundations or associations are not accepted, and other awards are decided by the gifted-education committee. Check the current-year annex list before investing in a competition. Separately, the screening date has been moving earlier (late Feb for SY114, late Jan for SY115) — always confirm with the current-year official notice.

Stage 2 tests real experiments — lab operation and reasoning are the part most students have never practiced and can least cram. Kids who have done real lab work for years pull ahead here.

GRADE 10 Senior-High Math-Science Gifted Placement
TNFSH, Tainan Girls' Senior High and others run math-science gifted programs with post-enrollment placement: students first enter the school, then sit the placement assessment. A separate road from the Science Class — you can prepare for both.

After placement, is my child in the gifted class all day?

Science Class vs. gifted program — what's the difference?
The Science Class is a pre-enrollment selection completed around March of grade 9; the gifted program is post-enrollment placement around July of grade 10. You can prepare for both.
When should we start preparing?
For Jiansing, grade 4 gives a full two-year runway. For the Science Class and gifted programs, strength comes from three junior-high years of math and real lab work — the earlier the better.
